Michael Long is a freelance violinist and teacher based in San Francisco. Michael was born in East Tennessee and raised on a small farm. His teachers have included Levon Ambartsumian (formerly at Moscow Conservatory) and Shakhida Azimkhodjaeva at the University of Georgia and Nancy Bargerstock at Appalachian State University. While studying in Georgia, Michael performed and recorded with ARCO chamber orchestra on violin and viola. Michael then earned an MA in music and philosophy from the University of Chicago. He now performs across the Bay Area and serves as the executive director for the SF Civic Music Association.
Michael also plays concertmaster for the Mozart to Mendelssohn orchestra, leads the Strings Community Nights, and is a regular participant in the chamber music series.
